Eoin Byrne is a multidisciplinary artist based in Dublin, Ireland, whose practice encompasses painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, video, and music. His work delves into the interplay between materiality and narrative, exploring how layers of reality and fiction intersect within everyday objects and scenes.
Byrne's artistic journey began with studies in advertising, followed by fine art print at the National College of Art and Design. In 1988, he co-founded “The Head Gallery,” Dublin’s first pop-up gallery, marking the start of his commitment to accessible and experimental art spaces. His international experience includes participating in sculpture symposia across Argentina and Paraguay, earning several awards, and exhibiting in Germany during a six-year residency.
In his paintings, Byrne often employs oil and charcoal on linen to create layered compositions that challenge traditional still-life formats. Works like "Cracked Vase (Two Layers of Fiction)" and "Nature Nature" exemplify his interest in the tension between constructed narratives and perception. His pieces frequently feature familiar objects—chairs, vases, trees—imbued with symbolic resonance, inviting viewers to reconsider the ordinary.
Byrne's commitment to process is evident in his inclusion of creation videos alongside finished works, offering insight into his techniques and conceptual development. This transparency underscores his belief in art as an evolving dialogue between the artist, the medium, and the audience.
Through his multidisciplinary approach, Eoin Byrne continues to explore the boundaries of form and fiction, encouraging a deeper engagement with the narratives that shape our understanding of the world.
